Ok.
Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s Nobel Peace Prize: Implications for Peace and Stability in Liberia
”For President Sirleaf, the winning of the Nobel Prize has broader and far reaching implications. The award comes just days before the hotly contested Liberian presidential elections. For a country that is still fairly fragile, winning of the Nobel Prize could be a huge boost to her bid for re-election. This notwithstanding, the award will have long-term implications on the future of Liberia.
The award could be instrumental in tipping the balance in Sirleaf’s favor—probably giving her enough votes in the first round to avoid a run-off. Her credentials as a peace advocate might boost her image internationally giving Liberia more favorable standing in the world.”
Did Nobel Committee Award Liberia\’s Sirleaf to Help Her Win Reelection?
”Well, Sirleaf is up for re-election. In four days. And her prospects are looking awfully shaky. In Liberia and in the West, there seems to be a growing consensus that the Nobel committee was not unaware of this timing.–Monrovia-based American venture capitalist Matt Jones tweeted, Sirleaf’s Nobel feeds hugely in 2 the conspiracy that her 2005 election & 2011 re-election r determined by foreign gov’ts.”
Och det är inte en okontroversiell pristagare:
”Sirleaf, the president of Liberia since 2006, is not exactly a controversial figure, but she’s not the Dalai Lama either, and her inclusion among today’s three Nobel Peace Prize winners might have as much to do with Liberia’s domestic and international politics as about the transforming role of female leadership in the developing world. ”Shocked response in Monrovia to Johnson Sirleaf’s Nobel prize, there are serious misgivings about Ma Ellen in Liberia,” UK Independent report Daniel Howden tweeted from the Liberian capital, noting Sirleaf’s ”murky” record during that country’s bloody civil war and reporting ”thousands of opposition supporters” rallying against the prize. A local told him, [The International] Community put fine flowers atop the grave but there are dead bones underneath.”
My take on Johnson-Sirleaf
”Before her Presidency, mostly she was been a force for peaceful political change. Mostly. There’s that pesky initial support for Charles Taylor (for which she since apologized) and there’s credible suggestions she supported a rebel uprising against Taylor in 1999. The (admittedly inept) Truth and Reconciliation Commission she formed ruled her unfit to hold office as a result.”
Strained Relations: Liberia\’s President and Her Stepson
”–the ambivalent relationship between the much-lauded President (she was named to the TIME 100 in 2006) and her stepson, a West Point graduate she depends on for security in a Liberia deeply scarred by a horrific civil war. Fombah Sirleaf, who reports directly to the President’s office, runs what is primarily an intelligence organization, but one with strong influence over the Liberian National Police. He and the NSA have been dogged by allegations of politically motivated arrests and human right abuses — which he has consistently denied.”
Sirleaf\’s Two Options Now: Move or Be Removed!
”In any case, this decision by Madam Sirleaf to disregard, disrespect, and violate the Liberian Constitution has given conclusive proof (if any were needed) of her despotic bent and rebellious character. It unmasks and reveals her as a comrade-in-arms with Samuel Doe, Charles Taylor, and even Muammar Gaddafi, the war criminal who reportedly armed and trained her earlier rebel incursions in Liberia and bankrolled her 2005 presidential campaign.”
A Rejoinder To: \”The Human Rights Farce and the UNMIL Conspiracy\”
Där detta intressanta parti dök upp:
”Lest I forget, let me mention in passing that the Perspective Website was organized to antagonize the government of former President Taylor under the guise of journalism and information dissemination. Its organization became a reality presumably with the help of now President Johnson Sirleaf with money believed to be from the Open Society Institute of the George Sorros Foundation. Thank God that instead of promoting open societies the Perspective is now promoting and entrenching closed society since Ellen became President.”
Soros. Igen. Man börjar känna igen hans MO.
Liberia\’s Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Named \”Top 100 Global Thinkers\”
”The president of the small West African nation of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, was named one of the ”Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2010″ by the Washington, DC-based Foreign Policy (FP) magazine. Johnson-Sirleaf is the only African head of state on the coveted list of who’s who in international politics and governance. In an introductory letter, Susan Glasser, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, says the list fully reflects the new world.”
Sirleaf Administration is on Track to Become the Most Corrupt in the History of the Modern Liberian Nation
”Since the 2005 presidential election that ushered in her administration, I’ve revisited and regretted my support of the president countless times and realized it was a monumental mistake on my part to support her, and believed strongly that now is the time to face the reality that despite her rhetoric during her inaugural speech to effect change, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has become part and parcel of the entrenched, corrupt and stagnant political status quo that undermined and underdeveloped Liberia, than an agent for progressive change.”
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf\’s Corruption Tree
”As for Liberia, our international partners such as the World Bank, etc and U.S. officials are not only silent on Sireaf’s business deals, as in the case of Equatorial Guinea, but they are also praising President Sirleaf’s efforts to fight corruption. The latest Report of the World Bank called President Sirleaf the “Global Reformer,” referring to Sirleaf’s war on corruption. Well yes, in less than four years, the “Global Reformer” and her cronies are seizing businesses ranging from banks, to mining gold, mining diamond, logging, consulting, importing rice, serving public corporations, etc
While owning acres of land is still profitable, financial institutions such as banks, generate huge profits. Therefore, it was not a surprise that Sirleaf Inc sought and got the ownership of International Bank (IB), formerly called International Trust Company (ITC). Soon after the 2005 election, President Sirleaf and her American partner, Stephen Cashin joined with her friend, Clavenda Bright Parker and her business partner, Ken Atta of Ghana, and took over ITC. Thereafter, Sirleaf Inc got all the major businesses (Firestone, Mitall Steel, the Maritime and the oil facility granted to Liberia by the Nigerian government) as the bank customers. Such an arrangement does, practically, strangulate other banks of profitable revenue. Ken Atta, who Sirleaf had picked to manage the Nigeria oil facility, was now the chairman of the board, while Cashin is the president.”
